Council on Foundations is the professional association of community, corporate, family and private foundations across North America. Not all foundations belong, but many do list their organization.

Foundation Center maintains an extensive database of foundaions of all types in the United States. The Center offers a comprehensive search engine but does require a fee for some of the listed services.

GuideStar is a traditional data source about many nonprofits. With free registration, a donor can access an organizations’ form 990. Also for an additional fee an upgraded access can be purchased to subscribe to an online newsletter.

National Center For Family Philanthropy provides for a wide range of donor publications to families who give to charitable organizations.

Keeping Wealth In Montana is a study commissioned by Montana Community Foundation to explore and investigate the transfer of wealth transpiring in Montana.

Chronicle Of Philanthropy is the newspaper of the nonprofit sector. The publication covers virtually all the pertinent issues of the philanthropic arena on a biweekly basis. The Chronicle website also includes a searchable database.
